Few Know These Old-School Hot Dog Styles

Every year, billions of Americans eat hot dogs, the ultimate all-American meal.

German immigrant butchers brought European sausage to New York in the 1860s, launching the American hot dog.

Street sellers cooked and sold ‘dachshund dogs’ from carts.

The first dachshund sausage bun seller is disputed.

It's believed that German immigrant Charles Feltman founded the first hot dog stand on Coney Island in 1867.

He served his Coney Island Red Hots in buns with mustard, sauerkraut, and sliced raw onions to beachgoers without plates.

Hot dogs became an instant hit, and by 1871, nine Feltman's restaurants in the city sold 40,000 a day.
